WHO WE ARE
Das Zentrum, the Australian-German Institute Inc., is a non-profit community organisation incorporated under the Australian Capital Territory Associations Incorporation Act.
Das Zentrum was founded in 1997 following the Goethe Institute’s withdrawal from Canberra.
Since its opening, Das Zentrum has continued to add to the unique collection of German language material donated by the Goethe Institute and to make it available to our members and to the general public.
What We Do
We bring together the German speaking community in Canberra
Learn and Speak German with us!
We offer adult language classes with qualified teachers in a friendly environment.
Check out our extensive German language library with German books and magazines, German language learning resources, audio-visual media and more.
We offer a range of events throughout the year, from German movie screenings to board game nights, Stammtisch gatherings, stalls at the German markets and more!

Get to know other German speakers and people interested in Germany. Join in with our events - we offer film evenings, game nights, trivia nights, a stall at the German markets, and so much more!
Members can borrow from our fantastic library and receive discounts to some of our events. For insurance reasons, you need to be a member to join our language classes.
We publish a regular magazine "Der Federkiel". Enjoy the stories and histories of members of our local German speaking community!
Join Our Language Courses
Our Language Courses for adults are open to members of Das Zentrum. You must be or become a member to be able to join a class.
Our classes are run by qualified and experienced language teachers and focus on language skills, communication and culture.
We keep class sizes small (between 8 and 16 students) which gives everyone plenty of opportunity to actively participate. Classes are held in our library in Das Zentrum, Griffin Centre, Genge Street, Canberra. Our language classes are a lot of fun - why not join us?
