The Canberra German Bookclub continues in 2026

After a successful start in 2025, the Deutscher Buchklub will continue in 2026! We will be meeting once a month on a Monday. Looking forward to meeting all our existing and new Buchklub members! The number of participants is limited to 12. If you are interested in joining and are not yet part of the Buchklub, leave your details to go on the waiting list !

Qualified German Teachers needed!

Would you like to teach German at Das Zentrum? We are looking for qualified German teachers for our adult classes at Das Zentrum. If you are interested, please get in touch with us on our contact page . Classes start again in February 2026 (date to be confirmed).

WHO WE ARE

Das Zentrum, the Australian-German Institute Inc., is a non-profit community organisation incorporated under the Australian Capital Territory Associations Incorporation Act.

Das Zentrum was founded in 1997 following the Goethe Institute’s withdrawal from Canberra.

Since its opening, Das Zentrum has continued to add to the unique collection of German language material donated by the Goethe Institute and to make it available to our members and to the general public.

We offer adult German language classes in the ACT with qualified teachers in a friendly environment.

Our Library

Check out our extensive German language library with German books and magazines, German language learning resources, audio-visual media and more.

Join in with our German Events

We offer a range of events throughout the year, from German movie screenings to board game nights, Stammtisch gatherings, stalls at the German markets and more!

Your membership supports our organisation and allows us to bring the Canberra German speaking community together. Membership is required to join our classes. We offer a range of membership plans. Join us and be part of our community!

Members can borrow from our fantastic library and receive discounts to some of our events. For insurance reasons, you need to be a member to join our language classes.

Join Our Language Courses

Our Language Courses for adults are open to members of Das Zentrum. You must be or become a member to be able to join a class.

Our classes are run by qualified and experienced language teachers and focus on language skills, communication and culture.

We keep class sizes small (between 10 and 16 students) which gives everyone plenty of opportunity to actively participate. Classes are held in our library in Das Zentrum, Griffin Centre, Genge Street, Canberra. Our language classes are a lot of fun - why not join us?
