Deutscher Buchklub - 14 April 2026

Der Buchklub ist in erster Linie eine soziale Gelegenheit, andere Deutsche und Deutschsprachige in Canberra kennenzulernen und in einer entspannten Atmosphäre über Bücher zu sprechen. Offen für alle, die ausreichend Deutschkenntnisse (B2 oder höher) haben, um deutsche Bücher zu lesen und sich auf Deutsch zu unterhalten. Teilnahme am Buchklub kostet $20 pro Semester. Aus Versicherungsgründen ist Mitgliedschaft bei Das Zentrum erforderlich. Wir treffen uns wieder am 14. April

German Autumn Markets 22 March 2026

The Harmonie Club will host the German Autumn Markets on 22 March 2026. Das Zentrum will have a stall at the markets - the perfect opportunity to talk to our volunteers about who we are and what we do! The German Markets in Canberra offer a range of stalls with German food and drinks, handmade goods, preserves and plants. A great opportunity for a fun day out! Our Library is Open Wednesday and Thursday Afternoon

Come along and borrow books, movies and magazines from our German language library at Das Zentrum, Griffin Centre in Genge Street, Canberra. Current opening hours: Wednesday and Thursday 3:30-5:30pm. You can ring us at (02) 62300441 to confirm that one of our volunteers is available. If leaving a message, make sure you give your name and number , as our answering machine does not record your number. We would love to see you there!

March Kaffeeklatsch

Join us for our monthly Kaffeeklatsch on 28 March 2026 , 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm at Das Zentrum, Australian-German Institute, Griffin Centre, Level 1, Room 1.03/20 Genge St, Canberra. What is a Kaffeeklatsch? Kaffeeklatsch is an opportunity to meet, chat and make new friends. Please bring a small plate of nibbles, fruit or biscuits to share! WHO WE ARE

Das Zentrum, the Australian-German Institute Inc., is a non-profit community organisation incorporated under the Australian Capital Territory Associations Incorporation Act.

Das Zentrum was founded in 1997 following the Goethe Institute’s withdrawal from Canberra.

Since its opening, Das Zentrum has continued to add to the unique collection of German language material donated by the Goethe Institute and to make it available to our members and to the general public.

We offer adult German language classes in the ACT with qualified teachers in a friendly environment.

We offer a range of events throughout the year, from German movie screenings to board game nights, Stammtisch gatherings, stalls at the German markets and more!

Join Our Language Courses

Our Language Courses for adults are open to members of Das Zentrum. You must be or become a member to be able to join a class.

Our classes are run by qualified and experienced language teachers and focus on language skills, communication and culture.

We keep class sizes small (between 10 and 16 students) which gives everyone plenty of opportunity to actively participate. Classes are held in our library in Das Zentrum, Griffin Centre, Genge Street, Canberra. Our language classes are a lot of fun - why not join us?
