August Canberra German Book Club

Join us for the second semester of book club! Our August book is Sten Nadolny's cult novel "Die Entdeckung der Langsamkeit", a book that is just as current now as it was when it was first published in the 1990s. German Street Libraries are coming to town

Thanks to the Multicultural Inclusion Grant Program of the ACT, Das Zentrum is preparing German Street libraries to be placed all over Canberra. We will reveal the first spots shortly. WHO WE ARE

Das Zentrum, the Australian-German Institute Inc., is a non-profit community organisation incorporated under the Australian Capital Territory Associations Incorporation Act.

Das Zentrum was founded in 1997 following the Goethe Institute’s withdrawal from Canberra.

Since its opening, Das Zentrum has continued to add to the unique collection of German language material donated by the Goethe Institute and to make it available to our members and to the general public.

We offer adult German language classes in the ACT with qualified teachers in a friendly environment.

Check out our extensive German language library with German books and magazines, German language learning resources, audio-visual media and more.

We offer a range of events throughout the year, from German movie screenings to board game nights, Stammtisch gatherings, stalls at the German markets and more!

Join Our Language Courses

Our Language Courses for adults are open to members of Das Zentrum. You must be or become a member to be able to join a class.

Our classes are run by qualified and experienced language teachers and focus on language skills, communication and culture.

We keep class sizes small (between 10 and 16 students) which gives everyone plenty of opportunity to actively participate. Classes are held in our library in Das Zentrum, Griffin Centre, Genge Street, Canberra. Our language classes are a lot of fun - why not join us?
